Brittany Music Workshops

There are two main strands to the festival : organ music and choral music.  In order to promote the latter, we have organised ten choral courses since 2008 under the expert direction of Malcolm Archer.  Experienced singers and choral scholars from the UK, France, Italy, the USA, Austria, Hong Kong and Morocco, aged 15 to 80, have taken part and have performed concerts and sung church services as the Choeur de l’Académie du Festival Jean Langlais.  This choir has also sung at the annual Sailors’ Society service in St Columba’s Church, London in October.

Malcolm Archer

Malcolm has become an integral part of our festival and he is an honorary member of our Association.  An organist, conductor and composer, he is renowned as one of the foremost church musicians of his generation.  From 2004 – 2007 he was Organist and Director of Music at St Paul’s Cathedral,London, and prior to that, he was organist and Master of Choristers at Wells Cathedral for eight years as well as being the musical director of Wells Cathedral Oratorio Society.

He has combined his post as director of chapel music at Winchester College with an extensive recital and composing career.  He is also a Fellow of the Royal College of Organists and an examiner for the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music.

Malcolm has given organ concerts in many European countries,Canada, the USA and South Africa, where he is also in demand as a director of choral workshops and courses.  We are extremely lucky that he has become so devoted to the cause of the Langlais Festival.
